Ox Herding Pictures

The Ox-herding Pictures emerged in 12th century China – they offer a way to reflect on the Zen path through images and accompanying verses.

Here’s a 5 minute introduction to the Ox-herding Pictures by Kirk Fisher Roshi.

The images we’re using to explore the Ox-herding Pictures (in Dharma sharing from August to November 2024) are attributed to 15th century Zen monk Tenshō Shūbun. The originals of these images are held in the Museum of Shokoku-ji Temple in Kyoto, Japan.

Regular MZG sitters can download a copy of the pictures, with accompanying verses, from our Zoom zendo page.
